Just in the nick of time! Here’s my Bunny and Chick for Easter 2012. All done in Zbrush, composited in Photoshop and added the fire! I might have to get this 3D printed for my desk.

Oil Slick Mermaid
This is going to be the start of a series of creatures and I learnt SOO much about Zbrush doing this!!!
I’ve also utilized some of the new features in R2 and R3.
I used Dynamesh for the Base Mesh of the Mermaid, the fishermen legs in the BG and the fish on the ground.
I used FibreMesh for the eye lashes and also for the seaweed bits on the rope around her chest.
I used the the new noise features to do the rusty, barnacled bath tub. It was all rendered inside Zbrush using BPR and then composited in Photoshop. Was a fair bit of work and was flying in the end to get it done for Expose 10 submission (hope it gets in, there’s amazing work in there) but I loved doing it!
Feb Sketch a Day!
I’m doing the February Sketch a day. #febsketchaday on twitter and instagram.
I’ve been wanting to sketch some of the anti-heroes from some of my favourite shows and it was fun to tackle.
I hadn’t done any portraits for awhile and I kinda shock myself that they came out ok. There’s still things I can see to fix but it’s been a good exercise, I’ll do some more this month.
Also threw in a monster for good measure.
Dark Mermaid WIP
This is a WIP of the model I’m creating in Zbrush for a Mermaid Piece. I’m taking a darker and modern approach to the mermaid myth.
This model is almost finished and I’ll start texturing it next.
I seem to be on this underwater theme at the moment. Here’s some quick iPad sketches of undersea beasties. I’m working on a bigger scale piece in 3D of a Mermaid which I’ll post soon but you can see a W.I.P. forum post here at cgSociety. More Soon!!
New Website, New Post, just add sharks!
Hello 2012 and Hello Everybody! I have a new website: andymonks.com and now have a new post of a Shark Sketch I did for a recent little competition I ran on my Facebook page (Hit ‘Like’ and you can subscribe and keep posted for the next competition to win a sketch).
This sketch inspired me after watching Deep Blue Sea again after a few years! If you like trashy shark movies, it’s worth a watch especially a scene with Samuel L Jackson, which I won’t say in case I spoil it.
This year had started with a bang. I have a tonne of work on and heaps of personal art I’ll be publishing in the blog in the next few weeks. Including my recent 3D sculpts in Zbrush….one of which I had prototyped in 3D which I’ll post soon, so stay tuned.
Thanks,
Andy
Merry Xmas
Merry Xmas! It’s been a quiet year with updates but stay tuned I will be updating more in 2012!

Happy Easter!
Well this is my first 3D piece in quite some time. I have fallen deeply and madly in love with Zbrush, where have you been all my life!
I did the base meshes in Maya low – rez, then I sent them into Zbrush for the detail modelling / texturing and then back to Maya where I laid them out. Final rendering was done with Mental Ray and then I did some final colour tweaking in Photoshop.
My daughter loves this ‘bunny wabbit wif a ticken on it head’. I hope you all do too!
And no doubt you’ll see some more 3D pieces from me soon!
Have a great Easter!
The Flame Dog
It’s been a little while! But I’m about to unleash it upon you!!
This is a recent character I did for FlameDog Records, it was heaps of fun to work on and Orlando from FlameDog is great to work with. More Soon!
Some of my assignments!
Hi All,
Been a bit quiet on the updates and I intend to rectify that! Had a load of work on and also been doing the self-taught Stephen Silver Character Design Course at Schoolism, check out Stephen’s Work on his blog. Schoolism has a stack of great courses, headed by Bobby Chui, a really inspiring artist and leader in the field. It’s an awesome course, I highly recommend it, really has been patching a lot of holes in my drawing and designing.
I thought I’d post up one of the assignments.
This was one where you drew this guy and then did 3 variations from memory as basis and pushed it in different directions (using strong shapes as the basis), I’m having a blast doing this stuff and the original photo has so much character.
Anyone who wants a caricature commissioned, give me a bell!
I’ll share some more of the assignments soon as well as some of the latest projects!
